Architecture Documentation for the German National EUDI Wallet

The German government decided to build an open ecosystem for EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallets in Germany by developing and providing it's own National EUDI Wallet while allowing other third-party Wallets as well.

This documentation provides insight into the architecture of the German National EUDI wallet, describing the scope, functions, involved entities and components, detailed data flows, cryptography and more.

This document does not include any code or developer documentation, which will be released at a later stage.

Looking for the broader ecosystem perspective?

For a detailed overview of the implementation options, architecture decisions, and governance models that shape the EUDI Wallet ecosystem in Germany, please refer to the Blueprint for the EUDI Wallet Ecosystem in Germany.

Current Status

The project team currently focuses on the design and the implementation of the PID function (Online Issuance and Presentation) and the respective Wallet Core functions (such as wallet instance revocation). Further functions, like EAAs or QES, will be added in later stages.
