A look back at the Open Online Consultation #23
Under the title “Experience the Wallet and Explore Its Architecture”, the project team, together with representatives from the Wallet Development Team, presented the current development status of the governmental EUDI Wallet in a compact live demo and provided a hands-on explanation of the architecture documentation. Around 260 participants from ministries, municipalities, tech companies, banks, as well as universities and research institutions attended the event and actively contributed to the open discussion.

Key Results
Through interactive live demonstrations, the speakers successfully bridged the gap between theoretical wallet architecture and practical implementation. Central questions were addressed, such as:
- How does the EUDI Wallet work?
- What roles do PID providers and Electronic Attribute Authorities (EAAs) play?
- Which security and usability decisions (e.g. PIN, biometrics, key management) underpin the system?
- How are interoperability and future-proofing ensured?

How the PID works in the EUDI Wallet
In a live demo, Kristina Yasuda, Product Owner in the Wallet Development Team, demonstrated the current status of the state EUDI Wallet. The following points became clear:
From the user’s perspective:
- I decide which attributes of my digital identity I share—only those truly necessary.
- My identity data remains under my control; it never leaves the wallet unprotected.
- When I log into an app or service, the wallet automatically checks device and platform protection—no action required on my part.
- This gives me more security with less effort, since I don’t need to scan or send IDs or documents.
From the relying parties’ perspective (e.g. banks, authorities, companies):
- You don’t receive insecure copies of documents, but verified, signed information.
- You can rely on the fact that the data is genuine, unchanged and compliant with data protection rules.
- Verification processes become faster, more efficient and more secure.

What Architecture underlies the EUDI Wallet in Germany?
Paul Bastian, Architect in the Wallet Development Team, presented the architecture documentation in a broader context, addressing questions such as: What role do the PID provider and public attribute sources (EAAs) play? How do the components interact? And where is interoperability actually ensured?
Here you will find all information about the blueprint and the architecture documentation:

Conclusion
The OOC #23 made it clear: transparency, speed, and technical depth resonate well. The live demo of the PID function and the contextualization of the architecture provided clear orientation. Every piece of feedback helps the project team prioritize next steps more precisely—from security and UX details to European interoperability.
